don't cry

Don't cry.
You say.
Don't cry.
I want to cry.
I want to cry,
I want you to hold me
And tell me I can.
But all you say is
Don't cry.
Finally, I tell you to hold me.
But, as I lay in your rigid arms,
And you smother me with unwanted kisses,
Kisses that don't mean I love you, but mean
I want you.
And nothing else.
I hear you say
Don't cry.
And I think of someone else,
Who would whisper,
And make my tears go away,
Even though he couldn't hold me,
I didn't have to tell him I wanted him to,
And I knew his arms weren't like yours.
And his kisses meant I love you.
And he would whisper
Its okay to cry. . .
Its okay to cry. . .
And I didn't cry anymore.
